Bridging the Gap Between Hunger
            & Food Waste in Oklahoma
Hunger is a worldwide crisis; but in backyard America, hunger and wasted food is a serious problem.
Needs Foundation is an Oklahoma-based 501(c)3 non-profit created to specifically solve this hunger issue in Oklahoma by partnerships with grocers, restaurants, churches, local community organizations, and local businesses and individuals.
Research reveals Oklahoma to be a front runner (rated 6th by the US Census in 2011) in the United States for restaurant food waste.
It is estimated that 50 or more Oklahomans die each year just in Oklahoma City from hunger, and the majority of those deaths are children under 12 years old.

Yet the amount of fresh, edible and nutritious food thrown out could each day could literally feed every hungry person in the state.

Needs Foundation’s primary mission is to bridge this gap between un-served perishable foods and hungry Oklahomans. The potential amount of food that could be collected would help us get closer to eradicating hunger, as well as eliminate much of the food waste in the state of Oklahoma. Additionally, by reducing the unnecessary amount of food being disposed of in landfills and the toxic methane gases produced from the decomposing organic waste, we look to have a positive environmental and financial effect in America with cleaner air and affordably addressing the $100 billion spent annually as a resolution for this growing issue.
Needs Foundation is a 501(c)3 charitable non-profit that collects the un-served or unsold food/corporate food surplus from grocers, bakeries, and restaurants, and distributes the food to needy Oklahomans via shelters, churches with community feeding programs, group homes, assisted living centers, public schools, VA hospitals, and other partner agencies.

The organization was founded by Mr.Joseph Abbo, a former special-needs teacher who saw the direct impact that hunger made on the students' ability to learn and focus in school.
Mr. Abbo and his wife and co-founder formed the Needs Foundation in 2010, and became a 501(c)3 organization in July 2011.
Today, we are proud to say that we have been able to distribute more than 300,000 lbs. of food just this year. Yet this is still a very small amount when compared to the hundreds of tons of fresh and nutritious food still going to waste in our state each day.

We are in search of more to join and support our cause; your help can make it possible for Needs Foundation to obtain much needed operating funds, equipment and volunteers to reach out to all of Oklahoma.

Please, help us bridge the gap between hunger and food waste!

Sincerely,

The Needs Foundation Team “
